Li Zhanshu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, held video talks with Irish House Speaker Alfa Joel at the Great Hall of the people in Beijing on the 27th. Li Zhanshu said that Ireland is a sincere partner of China. The leaders of the two countries maintained close communication and led the steady and smooth development of the China Ireland mutually beneficial strategic partnership. The two sides respect each other and treat each other as equals, and their cooperation in economy, trade, investment, agriculture, humanities and other fields has yielded fruitful results. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Ireland's independence, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the beginning of China's 14th five year plan. China is willing to work with Ireland to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, expand exchanges and cooperation and promote the sustained and in-depth development of bilateral relations. Li Zhanshu put forward four suggestions on further developing bilateral relations. First, deepen high-level exchanges and enhance political mutual trust. Issues related to Xinjiang, Hong Kong and Taiwan are related to China's sovereignty and territorial integrity and are the cornerstone of the healthy and stable development of China Ireland relations. Adhering to mutual respect and trust is a valuable experience for the continuous development of bilateral relations. Second, promote practical cooperation and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. We will fully tap the resilience and potential of bilateral economic and trade relations, make good use of cooperation mechanisms such as the Joint Committee on scientific and technological innovation cooperation, as well as platforms such as the China World Expo and the service trade fair, and reap more results. Third, promote people to people and cultural exchanges and enhance mutual understanding. Create new highlights of cooperation in people to people and cultural fields, and welcome Ireland to send a delegation to the Beijing Winter Olympics. Fourth, strengthen cooperation and promote true multilateralism. We will firmly safeguard the authority and status of the United Nations, strengthen anti epidemic cooperation, and adhere to scientific and United anti epidemic efforts. Li Zhanshu stressed that China's NPC is willing to strengthen friendly exchanges with the Irish Parliament and jointly enrich the connotation of bilateral relations. It is hoped that the two sides will maintain close communication at all levels through various ways, timely approve, revise or issue legal documents conducive to the development of bilateral relations, and create a good legal and policy environment for bilateral cooperation. The National People's Congress of China upholds the concept of people first and adheres to the continuous development of people's democracy in the whole process. The two sides can deepen the exchange of experience in governing the country and share effective practices in legislative supervision and governing the country according to law. Ofachor said that Ireland attaches great importance to developing relations with China. He thanked the Chinese side for its support in fighting the epidemic. The world can succeed only if it is united. The Irish parliament is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China's National People's Congress and make positive contributions to promoting practical cooperation between the two countries in economic, trade, agriculture, culture, education and other fields.
