Good layered teaching is to let students find their own "time zone"

2021-10-20

Recently, the hierarchical class teaching of grade three in Shenzhen Shawan middle school has become a hot spot on the Internet. Although the school has repeatedly stated that there is no distinction between key and non key classes, the allocation of teachers is treated equally. However, amid opposition, the three-day implementation of "layered teaching" in this middle school was terminated. The "layered education" implemented by Shenzhen Shawan middle school is that teachers scientifically divide students into several groups with similar levels according to their existing knowledge, ability level and potential tendency, and treat them differently, so as to make students better develop and improve in appropriate layered strategies and interactions. In fact, "layered teaching" is not even innovation. Since the 1980s, a few domestic schools have introduced the concept of "layered teaching" and explored its implementation. Of course, the model of layered education has ups and downs in other countries. Their experience and lessons are worthy of reference for "latecomers". From the content of news disclosure, Shawan middle school re divided the second grade students according to their subject characteristics and acceptance ability before the summer vacation. However, no matter how stressed by the school, this is not a simple division of key classes and non key classes. After all, this teaching model should "treat students differently", and parents can't help shivering. In order to take care of the "average value", what should those students with strong learning ability do? To solve this problem, Confucius put forward the strategy of "teaching without class" and "teaching students according to their aptitude" more than 2000 years ago. "Teaching students according to their aptitude" is still talked about by many people. Why can't we solve the contradiction of current education? The important difference is that the "classroom" scale in the Confucius era is incomparable with that in modern schools. If a teacher only takes more than a dozen students, he can teach students according to their aptitude, but there are often 50 or 60 people in the modern classroom, and the contradiction between "scale" and "personalization" is difficult to coordinate. If we carefully study the teaching concept of "layered teaching", to a certain extent, it can be understood as "large-scale" teaching students according to their aptitude. I think the reason why parents oppose "layered teaching" is not the essence of "layered teaching", but worried about "procedural justice": is the basis of stratification scientific? Will there be "privileged" students with poor grades enter high-level classes? Can teachers at all levels really be treated equally? Even if the teachers are equipped with the same equipment, will the teaching attitude of teachers be different? In fact, not all parents want their children to enter the "sharp knife class" or "key class". Rational parents can realize that if their children's level does not reach such a high level, even if they try to force their children in, it is not conducive to their children's learning. High intensity and high pressure will inhibit their children's healthy growth. However, inequality such as "sharp knife class" and "key class" has become a sensitive point in the hearts of many parents. Therefore, they would rather accept education "big pot". The "layered teaching" of Shenzhen Shawan middle school died in three days. From the perspective of online posts, many parents and students also expressed deep regret. On the issue of education, schools are more professional than parents, and the competent administrative department of education should also judge various opinions professionally, rather than being led by parents. The "layered teaching" of Shenzhen Shawan middle school does not violate the principle of "double reduction". For the school, this is also a useful exploration. As long as we can ensure the fairness of "procedure" and "result", we might as well be brave and use professional opinions to persuade "public noise". After all, we have to pull the "slow" students, and you can't pull the "fast" students back, can you? There is always a popular saying among parents, "every child has his own time zone". Isn't a good "layered teaching" just looking for their own time zone for children? (outlook new era)
