State Councilor and foreign minister Wang Yi met with visiting United Nations High Commissioner for human rights Michelle Bachelet in Guangzhou on the 23rd. Wang Yi welcomed Bachelet's visit to China and expressed the hope that this visit will be a trip to enhance understanding, strengthen cooperation and clean up the roots. Wang Yi introduced the development process of China and the ruling concept of the Communist Party of China. Wang Yi said that to develop the international cause of human rights, first, we should adhere to mutual respect and not politicize human rights; Second, we should adhere to fairness and justice and avoid double standards; Third, we should adhere to seeking truth from facts and not be divorced from national conditions and development stages; Fourth, we should adhere to openness and inclusiveness and refrain from camp confrontation. Bachelet congratulated China on its important achievements in economic and social development and the promotion and protection of human rights, and said that OHCHR hopes to take this visit as an opportunity to enhance mutual understanding and trust between the two sides, jointly address global challenges and jointly promote the development of international human rights.
